Luis Diaz joined the Reds in the summer and is now a fan favourite after helping his new teammates win two titles in as many months.

Not only has he won the League Cup and the FA Cup, but his brilliant exploits have also helped Liverpool reach the Champions League final in Paris.

He’s a box of tricks, but he’s not a show pony. His skill and 1v1 ability have already paid dividends for the Merseysiders, and it’s reasonable to say he’ll be a steal in the coming seasons.

He has 6 goals and 4 assists for Liverpool since the beginning of February, providing a good return on the £50 million he cost to sign from Porto.

Crucially, the negotiations with Porto in January built a close relationship, which Michael Edwards and Julian Ward appear to have put to good use.

Liverpool have reached an agreement with the Portuguese champions for Fabio Vieira, according to The Sunday Mirror (15/05 page 77).

They have first refusal on the 21-year-old this summer, which means that if Porto receives any offers to sign him, they must alert Liverpool and give them the opportunity to sign him first.

If another club tries to do the same, Liverpool will have the opportunity to trigger his £12.7m release clause, demonstrating, not for the first time, their better transfer plan.

Liverpool and FSG have advanced their approach to the transfer market under Jurgen Klopp, and while there is still plenty of space for improvement, the Reds have become famed for their transfer track record.

Diaz’s arrival in January was just the first of several spectacular signings made during Klopp’s reign, and I have no doubt that if Vieira was recruited in the summer, he’d follow in the footsteps of his old teammate.
