Real Madrid beat the Reds in the Champions League final on Saturday night and are set to inflict another defeat in the transfer market.

90Min claim that Liverpool were among the clubs who sorted personal terms with the French international, but the player himself wants to move to Madrid.

They have already missed out on Tchouameni’s French international teammate Kylian Mbappe this summer and that has seemingly sharpened their focus on other targets.

Their report reads: “In terms of personal terms, 90min have been informed that Tchouameni agreed these with Real Madrid, PSG, Liverpool and Chelsea.

“But he made it clear in the last week that his preference was to join the newly-crowned European champions.

“Add-ons will ensure that Monaco will get over £70m for their star man.“

Liverpool do need a midfielder and Tchouameni is one of the best young prospects in world football, but they have their structure and they stick to it.

It has been reported for a while that Liverpool were in the chase and wages were clearly not a problem in terms of this deal.

Perhaps the Champions League final played a part in the Frenchman’s thinking; perhaps his mind was already made up before that game.

But Liverpool do need to go again in the transfer market, strengthening their squad in response to Manchester City’s capture of Erling Haaland, and perhaps a more creative midfielder would be a good alternative after missing out here.
