Reports suggest Raphinha could stay at Leeds United this summer despite Chelsea making progress on a potential deal....CONTINUE READING
According to Leeds Live, the length of the saga could see the Brazilian remain at Elland Road, with the club set to jet off on their pre-season tour in just a few days’ time.
An excellent season saw him score a crucial goal on the final day of the campaign in the club’s massive victory against Brentford. His performances drew him praise from former teammate Kalvin Phillips, who described him as ‘unbelievable’.
This undoubtedly peaked the Blues’ interest, who saw first-hand his qualities as he scored against them in the thriller at Stamford Bridge earlier this season.
The Blues had agreed a deal with the Premier League survivors for the 25-year-old for a fee in the region of £60m.
However, it emerged that the player’s dream to feature for Barcelona saw him stalling to agree personal terms on a move to Stamford Bridge.
Twist in Raphinha transfer
The Catalan club have since announced their interest, although it appears they are yet to match or better Chelsea’s offer for his services.
The stalling has left the Brazil international in limbo, and Leeds’ upcoming pre-season tour could force him to remain as part of Jesse March’s side.
The Whites have had the majority of their squad return, with a tour of Australia days away. According to Leeds Live, if he is still part of the club then, they expect him to travel with them.
It is thought the Blues will not extend their offer for Raphinha forever, with them now knowing how much he would prefer a move to Spain.
While his preference obviously lies elsewhere, the club should not completely remove interest in the Brazilian. With the interest in Raheem Sterling also strong, the club could be set to completely transform their attack, with the pair complimenting each other perfectly as potential teammates.
