De Ligt recently made comments intimating that he would consider his future with the Serie A club after another fourth place finish.

As per Calcio Mercato, he said: “At the moment negotiations are underway and when the time comes I will decide whether to extend or if I want to look elsewhere. I always look at what is best for me in terms of the sporting project.

“Two fourth placed finishes is not enough, even Juventus knows it. We will have to take steps in that direction.”

De Ligt prefers Liverpool to Manchester United

The same outlet report that the Dutchman prefers a switch to Liverpool this summer than their bitter rivals Manchester United.

Their report reads: “At the moment De Ligt would say yes only to four teams, if the economic conditions were there.

“First of all are Real Madrid, but having signed Antonio Rudiger, they should not be considered a real contender at this stage. Paris Saint Germain, Manchester City and Liverpool are the other three clubs.

“If these teams were to make offers with the same €12 million (£10.3 million) salary he currently receives at Juventus , De Ligt would agree to leave.

“But at the moment – it should be emphasized – the defender remains at Juventus, because offers, neither from these teams nor from Manchester United, concretely have not arrived.

“On the Manchester United move that has been talked about, it should be emphasized that this was not welcomed with enthusiasm by De Ligt, especially since the ‘Red Devils’ could not guarantee him the salary he wants.“

De Ligt cost Juventus a reported £67.8 million (Sky Sports) in July 2019 and the reason they made that outlay is because he is one of European football’s highest potential central defenders.

His salary does look affordable, even within Liverpool’s wage structure, although if PSG and Manchester City are the competition, they have huge funds which could blow the Reds out of the water.

It was reported last month that Liverpool have made their first move for de Ligt and we will have to see how this one plays out when the transfer window opens.
