This remarkable journey has captured the hearts of many in the country. Located in the flood-prone region of Kano Plains, particularly along the treacherous River Nyando in Kisumu County, Jane endured the hardships that came with the unforgiving floods.

In 2012, she decided to take her plea for assistance to the government, but her passionate cry for help was met with mixed reactions.

Some ridiculed her Luo accent, turning her call for aid into a subject of amusement. However, Jane’s life took a significant turn when Eugene Wamalwa, a prominent figure in the government, paid her a visit.

Notably, he made a promise that would change the course of her life and the community’s future – the construction of the Koru-soit dam along River Nyando. In a noble gesture, he appointed her as the Flood Preparedness Ambassador for Kisumu County. This role not only acknowledged her commitment but also provided her with a regular income, which she desperately needed to support her family.
