The #NorthIsBleeding movement, however, started getting unemphatic reactions from southerners and easterners when the Movement called out for the latter’s support, and even though the civil rights group called on them to take into consideration their relatives and neighbors that reside in these states, some people still pay a deaf ear. These are some of the reasons why.
First, some people are still pissed off about the inattentiveness and lack of involvement of the northerners during the #EndSARS protests and the mayhem that followed. They are also not yet over the accusations shot at them claiming that the protests were targeted at dethroning President Buhari; a northerner. They see an unwillingness to join the movement as an opportunity to pay back for the negligence of the northerners.
Alf, others feel that as it is his tribe, President Buhari is expected to step in and restore order. However, TBI fearing this opinion had pointed out that although the casualties are steadily rising, corrupt leaders with their bad governance have not made any advances yet. According to them, “there is no part of Nigeria that the government is responsible and not corrupt. So, all of us must come together and fight to #SecureNorth!”
However, no matter how the controversy may abound and how we may feel, it is a fact that whatever is eating into the peace of the north is capable of adversely clawing into the other tribes’ peace as well. This places us with a choice; let the northerners carry their cross alone and await the worst that would happen or put away the tribalism and join the TIB movement to lend a hand and avert the danger that may reach us.
However, let us keep in mind that whichever of these choices we make, should strive for our nation’s collective sustainability.
