Moses no doubt is a talented footballer as he had proven time and time again through his spectacular displays during his years with the national team that he could stand toe to toe among the best wingers in the world. However, I think inviting the former Chelsea wingback might not be the right decision for the future of the Super Eagles.

We don’t need Moses in the Eagles right now because the likes of Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon, Samuel Kalu, even Chidera Ejuke are putting nice shifts for the team in that wing. They might still be green in the ear, but with encouragement and boosting of confidence from the coach, in no distant time, they could become the best.

Again, it is not proper to use club form as a major criterion to recall retired players to the Eagles. Both are two different thing. We could recall how Odion Ighalo struggled during his game against Cape Verde last month. History abounds where players who were never given playing time in their clubs are always fantastic during international duties.

Am I saying Moses shouldn’t be invited to the Eagles? No, far from it! If Moses is interested in coming back to the Eagles, he should be ready to prove that he is better than the current young goons in the team. It will be unfair to the younger players if Moses is given special treatment in the first eleven.

Gernot Rohr has his work cut out for him as he is set to release his 40-man squad from which he would pick his final team that would prosecute next year AFCON in Cameroon. The success of the Super Eagles in this upcoming African football tournament lies in the tactical and technical depth of the coach and not how well Moses would play, if he eventually make the final list.
