Sheila Kawira would have ended her education at the secondary school level had she acceded to her folks’ counsel to quit school and join them in the controversial preacher’s sect in Malindi.

According to Doris Kendi and Fredrick Kirimi, going to school had been frowned upon by Mackenzie and branded as unbiblical, thus her parents’ resolve to convince her to drop out.

The 20-year-old was at the time schooling in Kaaga Girls High School, a girls’ only boarding school located in Kaaga sub-location, North Imenti.

Kawira’s parents learnt about Mackenzie in 2019 after coming across his Times TV through which he broadcasted his ministry.

She ultimately gave in to their pressure and quit school while in form Four Third term. Noting her absence, the headmistress at Kawira’s school came forth to find out why she was missing school.

She used the excuse of lacking some schooling necessities, which the principal offered to take care of. That is how she got back to school, dissenting from her parents’ directive; the parents disowned her, leaving home with her two siblings to fully join Mackenzie.

She joined the university courtesy of the generosity of Igembe South MP Paul Mwirigi, who offered to support her financially.

Mackenzie’s followers are believed to have starved themselves to death following his order, promising them they will meet Jesus.

Arguably, one of the ways Mackenzie amassed a cultic following was by convincing his congregation that he possessed the ability to speak directly to God.

During his sermons, he preached against certain practices which he termed were against God’s wish. In 2017, the preacher dropped a bombshell when he warned his female followers against wearing wigs. He termed it demonic.

Also, Mackenzie claimed using mobile money was diabolical; mobile money services in Kenya include M-Pesa, Airtel Money and Telcom Money.

The self-declared man of God also warned his followers against seeking medical attention in hospitals, claiming it was satanic.

Also, Mackenzie has a gospel song christened The Antichrist in which he claims that the Catholic Church, United States of America (USA) and United Nations (UN) are agents of Satan.
