According to the CS, Tana River, Homa Bay and Kisumu counties are some of the areas where schools may not be opened alongside others.
Speaking on Thursday morning, Machogu confirmed that the affected schools will not be reopened and learners within the regions will be considered for alternative learning methods.
He was speaking while assessing Karen C Secondary School in Nairobi’s readiness to open for the second term.
Machogu further added that 95 per cent of schools in the country were ready for students to resume learning for the second term.
Additionally, the CS stated that the ministry would be reducing the duration of the August holiday to create enough time for the completion of the syllabus.
This is following the postponement of school opening dates from May 6 to May 13 after heavy rains rocked the country.
The Ministry of Education will be expected to issue a directive on the specific schools and areas that will be affected by the latest directive.
A spot check on the number of schools affected by the flooding situation in the country revealed that more than 1,900 had been affected with some schools submerged.
To rehabilitate schools and ready the country for the school opening, Ndindi Nyoro, the Chairperson of the Budget and Appropriations Committee stated that the Parliament would not cap spending on flooding mitigation measures.
“When issues of how much you have spent come to Parliament, I want to assure all the government institutions we are going to approve all expenditures,” he added.
