This is one of the main reasons why the security situation in Nigeria will be much more satisfactory in the country. If we can remember what happened before the 2015 general elections, just before the presidential election, when the Nigerian military almost recaptured Borno towns from Boko Haram insurgents, even before Buhari came to power, almost all the local government areas that Boko Haram took over were recaptured. So this is what will happen, if the security operatives’ morale is high, they will be able to crack down on the hideouts of the terrorists and villages invaded by them.
It is very important to know that whenever any electoral movement is going on in the country, the security of lives and properties of the citizens is the higher priority, and if our politicians will be diligent in the fight against the insurgents by visiting their catchment areas or the affected geopolitical zones, the terrorists can be discouraged from their operations.
Indeed, Boko Haram and other terrorist organizations are dominating new areas in the country and taking advantage of the country’s poverty situation to expand their extremist ideologies. According to the report, from the beginning of the insurgency in 2009 to 2021, over 300,000 people were killed by terrorists and many were displaced from their homes.
In order to sustain the onslaught against the bandits and Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists, the security operatives must maintain potency and dominate the area with ground and air components of the armed forces so that they can quickly respond to any distressed calls from members of the public in case of any of the terrorist group’s attacks. Much of the terrorist combat capability will be harmed as a result of this.
