Though the three-time African champions have already qualified for the AFCON competition in Cote d’Ivoire next year, Jose Peseiro’s side will be trying to win the game and finish first in their group.
Sao Tome and Principe, for their part, are out of contention for the main African football event, but they will be eager to put up a fight and preserve what little national pride they have left, especially following a 10-0 thrashing in the reverse leg in June 2022.
Sao Tome and Principe will undoubtedly be attempting to save face today, but they will also be travelling with fear and apprehension.
They can only admire the amount of talent on coach Jose Peseiro’s team. It boasts talent from the English Premier League, Italy’s Serie A, France’s Ligue 1, Germany’s Bundesliga, and representation from top-tier teams in Belgium and Portugal.
