One player was key to the Golden Eaglet victory tonight. And that’s Ebube Okere. A short man who had gotten the whole game mapped out in his head.

He knows Burkina Faso is very tricky with the ball, especially when they are playing their one-two system of passings. Okere had to move away from his attacking position to play as a defensive midfielder to defuse the dangers looming large against his team.

The passion was seen in his face and you could see how he throws his body out to head away from the ball when it came into his Nigeria half. This character he has shown in today’s game was brilliant and key to the victory of his team. Burkina Faso getting that space to widen the play would have changed the whole results of today’s match.

Gratefully, the Golden Eaglets have gotten their revenge for the Super Eagles and won right there in Ghana. They are the best under-17 team in Africa at the moment, arguably they are also the best in the world at this stage.
