Boniface Achuya Nyabuti went viral when he was accosted by a shopkeeper in Pipeline, Embakasi, for failing to clear a meagre debt of KSh 100. Achuya took TUKO My Story through his journey dotted with painful experiences he hopes to overcome for good.
The one-time family man disclosed that he was abandoned unceremoniously by his wife due to their financial struggles.
According to him, the mother of his child woke up at midnight and ran away, leaving him with their two-year-old baby. His efforts to seek his mother-in-law’s intervention did not bear fruit, as she sided with her runaway daughter.
It has been two years since Achuya was left to raise the baby alone, a period within which his struggles increased tenfold.
Achuya says that seeing his son stay home while his peers attended school stressed him, so he did all he could to enrol him.
Despite taking him to school, the youngster could not stay long as he was sent home over fee arrears and missed his exams.
Achuya was humiliated over the KSh 100 he had borrowed to pay his son’s fees as the shopkeeper accosted and tied him up with the help of neighbours.
His story touched the hearts of many Kenyans, who contributed to uplift him through philanthropist Eric Omondi.
What was meant to be the straw that broke him became a life-changing moment as Omondi’s initiative raised KSh 600,000. The money was used to rent a shop and buy stock, giving the single father a fresh start that is expected to change his fortunes..<<CONTINUE READING>>
