The Red Devils were defeated 1-0 by Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday, while Galatasaray are coming off a 2-1 win over Ankaragucu in Turkey’s top flight, which puts them atop the table.
The next crisis is never far away for Manchester United, who have lost five of their first nine matches in all competitions this season, including four of their first seven Premier League matches of 2023–24.
The Red Devils have had their worst start to a league season in 34 years, with a 1-0 defeat to Palace at Old Trafford on Saturday leaving them in 10th place in the table with just nine points from seven games.
Erik ten Hag is unhelpfully opaque when it comes to team news, but Lisandro Martinez is out for the foreseeable future. The Argentine center-back joins a treatment room almost entirely populated by defenders after aggravating an existing foot injury.
Tyrell Malacia is out until the end of October at the earliest, while fellow left-back Luke Shaw is dealing with a muscle problem. Sergio Reguilon, who was signed as Shaw’s replacement this summer, was injured last week.
Although Reguilon’s problem is minimal, it is unknown whether he will be able to return in midweek and relieve Sofyan Amrabat of the problematic task. Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s hamstring injury is expected to keep him out for two months.
