The Albanian forward who’s a product of Chelsea’s academy first made his debut for the club two years ago when he came on as a substitute in the 4-nil victory over Everton at Goodison Park before going on to spend last season on loan at Southampton.

Broja, 20, got the game time he desired at Southampton which helped him to find the back of the net 6 times in 35 Premier League appearances for The Saints.

With Lukaku leaving on loan while Timo Werner was permanently sold to Leipzig, Thomas Tuchel decided to keep hold of Broja despite the concrete interest shown towards the striker from other clubs, specially West Ham.

Surprisingly, Armando is yet to start a single Premier League fixture under Tuchel this term despite the absence of an out and out number 9 at Chelsea.

Instead, Tuchel has opted to deploy Kai Havertz as a ‘False 9’, a tactical approach which has seen The Blues score lesser goals than they have conceded whereas they have a traditional number 9 in the squad.

Now with the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang confirmed, it all but suggests Tuchel has no plans to feature Broja regularly this season which doesn’t spell good for the youngster’s career.

Seeing that Aubameyang has been brought in to address Chelsea’s attacking woes, Broja should have pushed for a move on transfer deadline day or wait till January before seeking a transfer to another club where he can gain valuable minutes.

But according to Fabrizio Romano, he has decided to extend his contract, a decision which does not seem like a good call.

Unless he’s happy sitting on the bench, collecting weekly wages, Broja should have done better than opting to stay and play second fiddle to Aubameyang or Havertz.
