In their three preseason games this summer, the Red Devils have defeated Liverpool, Melbourne Victory, and Crystal Palace. The Villa have also had a perfect summer, winning all three of their games against Walsall, Leeds United, and Brisbane Roar.

Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, and Jadon Sancho scored as Manchester United defeated Crystal Palace 3-1 on Tuesday in Melbourne, continuing their outstanding preseason run that has included victories against Liverpool and Melbourne Victory.

The 20-time English champions will now play Villa in Perth to close out this portion of their preseason tour before returning to Europe the following weekend for friendlies against Atletico Madrid and Rayo Vallecano.

A 4-0 victory over Walsall on July 9 helped Villa begin their preparations for the 2022–23 season. On July 17, in their second summer game, they defeated Leeds United 1-0.

On Wednesday night, Steven Gerrard’s team defeated Brisbane Roar 1-0 to win the Queensland Champions Cup. Cameron Archer scored the game’s only goal.

Villa will now play their final two summer friendlies against Manchester United and Rennes before beginning their 2022–23 Premier League campaign on the road against recently promoted Bournemouth on August 6.

This summer’s transfer window saw activity from Gerrard’s club, who also confirmed a permanent deal for Philippe Coutinho and brought in Diego Carlos, Robin Olsen, Ludwig Augustinsson, and Boubacar Kamara.
