President William Ruto intervened to overrule the ban, citing the Crop Act of 2013, which recognizes Muguka as a scheduled crop. This decision came after county officials had initially blocked Muguka trucks from entering Mombasa.

The residents, thrilled by the news, eagerly welcomed the trucks, expressing their happiness through jubilant cheers and vuvuzela blasts.

However, amidst the celebrations, some netizens voiced concerns about the potential consequences of Muguka consumption.

One netizen lamented the possibility of future generations being affected by the widespread use of Muguka. Despite these concerns, the prevailing sentiment among residents seemed to be one of joy and relief at the return of the beloved product.

It’s worth noting that Mombasa is not the only county grappling with the Muguka issue. Earlier, Kilifi, Taita Taveta, and Mombasa had all banned the sale and distribution of Muguka and its cousin, Miraa.
