The two sides meet at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, with Arsenal just one point clear of the reigning Premier League champions after 28 games.
As it proved to be last season when City strolled to a 4-1 win, the fixture could be decisive when it comes to determining where the title will end up this season.
Arteta was speaking to the media prior to the contest with City but one particular question in the press conference clearly irked him.
A reporter brought up the fact that previously when Arsenal went to Anfield to play Liverpool, he blasted ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ over the speakers in training to get his players used to the atmosphere.
The approach was captured in the Amazon Prime ‘All or Nothing’ documentary and the journalist essentially asked if things like the above are not necessary anymore because of the change in mindset for his team.
But even before he’d finished the question, Arteta didn’t look too thrilled.
He then responded, saying: “And if I tell you that I did something when we beat Man City at home? I might have done it! And maybe it was needed because we won!
“It doesn’t work like that. We have to do what we feel and what the team needs and try to shape that up so they are in the best possible mindset.”
And in addition to Arteta not exactly enjoying what he was asked, Arsenal fans slammed the question.
One wrote: “The stupidity of the questions that Mikel faces constantly is embarrassing.”
A second added: “Journo tries to make Mikel look stupid and he got out smarted. My manager.”
A third fumed: “What a ridiculous question from the journalist.”
