It has always looked like a three-horse race between Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland, and Kylian Mbappe. However, the achievement of Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland have seen them leave the Frenchman behind.
Argentina legend, Lionel Messi remains the favourite to win the award for the eighth time in his career. The former Barcelona star led Argentina to World Cup glory in December last year and he has also won the French Ligue 1 with Paris Saint-Germain.
However, Erling Haaland is not too far behind. The Manchester City star became a part of history as he helped the Cityzens win the treble.
This gives him an edge over other contenders and may see him win the award ahead of Lionel Messi. In the 2022/23 season, the Norwegian striker scored a goal of 56 goals for club and country.
The third favourite to win the award is former Real Madrid star, Karim Benzema who helped the Spanish La Liga club reach the semi-finals of the Champions League.
The fourth favourite to win the award is Kylian Mbappe. The Frenchman once again won the French Ligue 1 Player of the Season last season and also led France to the final of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
