The La Liga and Champions League champions beat off competition from PSG and Liverpool to sign the 22-year-old for a sum that might reach €100 million.

Following his physical, Tchouameni will be introduced to the media as a Real Madrid player in the Spanish capital on Tuesday.

After defender Antonio Rudiger, who joined the club on a free transfer from Chelsea, the France international becomes the second summer acquisition to arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Tchouameni is considered as one of Europe’s most promising midfield talents after taking his game to new heights with Monaco last season when he made 50 appearances in all competitions.

The Rouen-born defensive midfielder, who was awarded the Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year for 2021-22, has established himself as a regular for Didier Deschamps’ France national side, appearing 10 times since his debut in September last year.

Tchouameni will join fellow Frenchmen Karim Benzema, Eduardo Camavinga, and Ferland Mendy at Madrid, where he will vie with Brazilian lynchpin Casemiro for a starting spot in Carlo Ancelotti’s team.

The France international had a productive 2021-22 season for his Ligue 1 side, scoring five goals and assisting three times in 50 appearances across all competitions.

A number of clubs, including PSG and Liverpool, are thought to be interested in signing the midfielder this summer, but Real Madrid are considered to be the frontrunner.

Real Madrid are close to acquiring Antonio Rudiger from Chelsea on a free transfer, but the Germany international faces a struggle to gain a starting spot next season. Eder Militao and David Alaba both had good seasons for the La Liga and European champions.

Casemiro was outstanding in the Champions League final, while Dani Carvajal, Ferland Mendy, and Thibaut Courtois were all great.

Toni Kroos and Luka Modric might be moved out next season to make room for Tchouameni owing to the rumoured expense of the transaction.

Kroos and Modric would still play a lot owing to the quantity of games, but Kroos may be pulled out more regularly.

Tchouameni has eight goals and seven assists in 95 games for Monaco. The 22-year-old would offer new abilities to Real Madrid’s midfield.

After missing out on Kylian Mbappe, at least one new attacker is anticipated, although Vinicius Junior and Karim Benzema will remain in the front three. Federico Valverde will likely play on the right in major games.
