Sir Michael Otedola was a politician whose son happened to be one of the richest businessmen in Nigeria and Africa at large.

Sir Michael Otedola was the former Governor of Lagos State, who was elected on the platform of the National Republican Convention (NRC). He governed Lagos State from 1992 to 1993 and left office when the Military President, General Sani Abacha, came to power.

After leaving office as Lagos Governor, he continued his career as a writer, a consultant who served on the boards of numerous firms, and a philanthropist. He was one of 15 illustrious Nigerians to get the Lifetime Achievement Award. Michael Otedola died on May 5, 2014 at his residence in his home town of Epe, Lagos.

Femi Otedola is one of the sons of the late Michael Otedola. Femi started fuel marketing in 2003 after spotting an opportunity in the fuel retail market and securing the finance to set up Zenon Petroleum and Gas Ltd, a petroleum products marketing and distribution company. He is currently one of the richest men in Nigeria.
