The season is over and the transfer window is only a few weeks away from opening – meaning that Mikel Arteta can bring a few more players to the squad that will improve key areas of the pitch

Marquinhos broke through into the Sao Paulo side as a 18-year-old, making his debut against Flamengo in July, 2021 – and has been mightily impressive for the Brazilian side over the past couple of seasons

All the big clubs have been keeping a very close eye on his performances – his ability and his very low asking price – but it seems that Arsenal have now won the race to get a transfer deal done

And now fans have been told that the Brazilian believe that a deal will be wrapped up soon between the two clubs: ‘Sao Paulo still hasn’t received the money from Arsenal, but it’s calm,’ a source at the Brazilian club told Yahoo Sports Brazil.

‘The agreement has legal guarantees and the player has already undergone medical examinations.’

Meanwhile, Sao Paulo have been criticised for allowing Marquinhos to leave the club for such a relatively small fee.

‘This is absurd. This is absurd,’ said former Brazil midfielder Vampeta.

‘They’re going to lose Marquinhos to Arsenal for £2.5m.

I don’t know if you remember that I used to say I watched Audax’s academy games, Marquinhos in the under-15s, he used to already make the difference.
