The first half was a boring one at Etihad as Manchester City dominated the game giving Chelsea no time to create a goal-scoring chance. Chelsea finished the half with zero shots on target and zero corner kicks. Kepa made a superb save as he denied Grealish the opener.

So, in a moment of the first half, Joao Cancelo escaped a red card after he stepped on the leg of Christian Pulisic. The ball was almost crossing the throwing line before Cancelo stopped it, so Pulisic slides to win the ball for Chelsea as the Man City defender ended up stamping on Chelsea’s winger leg.

The referee didn’t bother reviewing the situation as he judged that it was an accident from Cancelo. Several replays also showed that the tackle was unintentional from him. So he was able to escape the situation as Pulisic was left in pain for some minutes. Tuchel and the rest of the Chelsea players weren’t happy with the situation.
The referee instead blow for Manchester City’s throw as the game continued towards the end of the first period.
Nevertheless, the situation has caused an uproar among football fans on the internet who felt that the Referee didn’t rightly judge it as VAR also ignored it.
