According to a report from Sky Sports, Manchester United are now set to submit a formal bid for Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount. But the two clubs are still far apart in terms of valuation.
The 24-year-old midfielder has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge, with his contract expiring in June 2024. Chelsea are under pressure to sell in this summer.
They will not want to lose him as a free agent next year. Manchester United are hoping to take advantage of his contract situation and sign the player.
It remains to be seen whether they can convince Chelsea to accept a reasonable fee for the English international. They have a price in mind for the 24-year-old midfielder, and Manchester United have decided not to overpay for him.
Mount has been a key player for Chelsea since breaking into the first team, and his departure will certainly weaken the side. It will be interesting to see if the Blues can replace the English international adequately this summer.

Chelsea could lose players like Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante as well. While Kante will be a free agent at the end of this month, Kovacic is reportedly in talks to join Manchester City. It seems that Chelsea might need a major midfield revamp during the summer transfer window.
It remains to be seen whether newly appointed manager Mauricio Pochettino can replace these players and help Chelsea compete at a high-level next year.
The Blues had a disappointing 2022/23 season, finishing 12th in the league table. They have missed out on the Champions League qualification as well.
Chelsea will be desperate to bounce back strongly, and they need better players in order to climb up the table. The Blues spent a club-record fee on Enzo Fernandez during the winter transfer window, and they will have to bring in multiple central midfielders during the summer transfer window as well.

As for Manchester United, they need to add creativity and goals to their side in the final third and Mount would be a quality option to have.
Christian Eriksen is in his twilight years, and the 24-year-old Chelsea midfielder would be the ideal replacement. And with personal terms not an issue, it will be interesting to see if Manchester United can get Chelsea to compromise on the price tag.
