To show how much Cristiano means to them, Sporting paid tribute to the player by customizing their third shirt with the initials ‘CR7’ at the beginning of this season.
And last night, they gifted him the shirt before Portugal’s European qualification match against Iceland kicked off.
Such honors like this should be replicated by Manchester United and Real Madrid where Ronaldo spent the better part of his career at.
Since Ronaldo left, no player has ever scored 42 goals a season for the Red Devils which he achieved during the 2007/08 season.
Yes, it might be argued that Cristiano left Old Trafford in sore terms last year, but let’s not forget the fact that he’s still the last player to win the Ballon d’Or, Premier League Player Of The Year award and UEFA Best at Man United.
He remains a United legend and the club should honor him just like Sporting did.
