Casemiro arrived from Real Madrid in a surprising £70million deal late last summer after United failed to sign Erik ten Hag’s priority target, Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong.

The Brazil captain enjoyed a sensational maiden season at Old Trafford, helping Ten Hag lift the Carabao Cup, reach the FA Cup final and finish third in the Premier League, sealing a Champions League return.

However, his form has drastically dipped this term, raising questions about United’s decision to drop such a significant chunk of money on a player past his best.

Last month, reports emerged stating the Casemiro deal was one of the examples Sir Jim raised while grilling Richard Arnold and John Murtough over recruitment in a meeting at Carrington in March.

And with the 71-year-old’s arrival imminent, Casemiro could be heading for the exit door as early as January if there is concrete interest.

According to TEAMtalk, United are prepared to let him leave this winter and want £50m to part ways.

United are said to be exploring potential replacements, and Casemiro is open to pursuing a new challenge just 18 months after arriving at Old Trafford.

The report claims the five-time Champions League winner is likely to move on in 2024, be it in January or the summer, having grown tired of the club’s struggles on and off the pitch.

He’s under contract in M16 until 2026, and United reportedly hope to cut their losses by pocketing £50m from his sale.

Saudi Arabia is cited as a realistic option, with four Saudi Pro League clubs circling as they plot their next high-profile additions in the winter transfer window.

TEAMtalk also claim Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain are in the frame, having admired Casemiro for several years.

It’s conceded there is less chance of Casemiro moving to the French capital before next summer. However, advanced Saudi interest could force PSG into action sooner.
