The Red Devils have been attempting to sign the Dutchman for the past month, and it has recently been reported that a deal is nearing completion.
A guaranteed fee of around €65 million has been agreed upon, but the clubs must still work out the structure of the add-ons (€20 million).
In the midst of this, Laporta has surprised everyone by insisting that De Jong is not for sale and would prefer to stay at the club.
“Not only does Manchester United want him, but so do many other clubs. We have no intention of selling him; he wishes to remain “He stated this.
United is still hoping to sign De Jong, but they may need to act quickly because Chelsea is also interested in him.
The Blues recently failed to hijack the Spurs’ pursuit of Richarlison and could make a similar late bid for De Jong’s services.
De Jong is eager to play in the Champions League next season, which could give Chelsea an advantage over United.
