By the time his contract expires, the 30-year-old would have earned £43 million, but United believes it was worthwhile, as seen by Ten Hag’s faith in the midfielder.
Eriksen has started each of Manchester United’s six league games in center midfield with Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay.
He was one of the six summer signings for the team, along with Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord, Lisandro Martinez and Antony from Ajax, Casemiro from Real Madrid, and Martin Dubravka on loan from Newcastle United.
Although there have been concerns about Eriksen’s overall condition, he has played at least 85 minutes in every game so far this season, including four 90-minute contests.
He assisted Marcus Rashford in setting up Manchester United’s first goal of the year on Sunday, extending their lead over Arsenal with a simple tap-in.
