The defender’s future at United is now under scrutiny, as the club aims to build on their recent success.

Under the management of Erik ten Hag, United has enjoyed a resurgence this season. The club secured their first trophy in four years with a Carabao Cup win in February and are competing in both the Europa League and FA Cup.

Although United sits in third place in the Premier League, the club is only three points ahead of fifth-placed Newcastle.

The team’s improvement is partly attributed to their summer recruitment. Casemiro has played a vital role in the club’s success, while Lisandro Martinez has formed a solid defensive partnership with Raphaël Varane at centre-back.

Maguire, who was previously a regular starter, has had his game time significantly reduced due to the success of the Varane-Martinez partnership.

As a result, United may consider selling the captain to make room for new recruits and further improve the team.

According to ESPN’s Rob Dawson, Manchester United is reportedly open to receiving offers for several senior players, including Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay, Victor Lindelof, and Dean Henderson, as they look to balance their books following last summer’s spending spree.

Maguire, who has seen his playing time reduced this season, has been caught up in “dressing room politics” related to Cristiano Ronaldo’s tumultuous departure from the club in November.

Ronaldo is said to have expressed his desire to be club captain, but the request was declined by interim boss Ralf Rangnick.

Sources suggest that United’s coaching staff appreciate Maguire’s ball-playing abilities but have concerns about his tendency to rush out to win challenges, which could leave the team exposed, as well as his lack of mobility.

As such, Maguire is among the players who could potentially be sold at the end of the season, alongside Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe, with both players coming to the end of their contracts.

United will need to balance their books after significant investment last summer, and these outgoings could free up funds for new acquisitions.
