Manchester United are being priced out of a move to sign Barcelona forward Memphis Depay this summer.

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo who claim that Barcelona are ‘demanding a higher amount’ than what Manchester United ‘could reach’.

It was recently claimed that Depay is literally waiting for United boss Erik ten Hag to make an official move to bring him to Old Trafford this summer.

The Dutchman is keen to leave the Camp Nou this summer (Sport), but there have been no takers with his £16.9 million asking price and £160k-per-week salary (Salary Sport) proving problematic.

And it seems as though United are not prepared to pay the amount that Barca are asking for.

Mundo Deportivo reckon that United cannot reach the amount being demanded by Barcelona for the 28-year-old.

We think that signing Depay would be the icing on top of the cake for Ten Hag this summer. If Cristiano Ronaldo leaves Old Trafford before deadline day, the Barcelona star would be the ideal man to come in and lead the line for Ten Hag’s side. Or at the very least, provide strong competition for Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

The former United ace is an enigmatic, precocious talent and on his day, he is unplayable. Depay is incredibly strong as well and would be ideally suited to leading the line on his own for United. The Barcelona ace has been described as a player with ‘unreal skill’ by the Metro.

The 80-capped Holland international possesses exceptional technical ability and has a penchant for the extraordinary. Depay bagged 13 goals and two assists in 38 games for Barca last season.

Depay has been described as a ‘world-class talent’ by Manchester Evening News. He is a top-class player and despite the fact that he struggled during his first spell at Old Trafford, we think he could be a huge hit this time around.

Whether Manchester United are prepared to meet Barcelona’s demands for Memphis Depay before the transfer window slams shut remains to be seen though.

Gakpo makes Man United transfer admission

PSV Eindhoven attacker Cody Gakpo has admitted that Manchester United are a ‘serious option’ for him ahead of the summer transfer deadline.

The 23-year-old is regarded an important player for the Dutch outfit, but has been fancied for a big-money move before the transfer window closes.

United have been regularly linked with his services, and it has been reported that he could join them regardless of the club’s pursuit of Antony.

Amidst this, the Dutchman has opened the door for a transfer by acknowledging that United are a serious option and he is aware of the reported interest.

He told ESPN via Manchester Evening News: “There are also other options, United are a serious option. I can hear it all. I try to shut myself off from it, but it’s difficult.”

United have been very active during the final days of the transfer window, and it was expected after the horrendous start to the season with back-to-back losses.

PAY ATTENTION:  Transfer: Chelsea Striker Could Leave The Club On A Permanent Deal In January Transfer Window

The recent £85 million deal to sign Antony will take their spending spree to over £200m, but there could be more signings before the transfer window closes on Thursday.

The Brazilian is a specialist right-winger, who should provide quality competition to Jadon Sancho, and we may see Gakpo brought in to reinforce the left-wing department.

Furthermore, the attacker’s arrival could also see Marcus Rashford given a more frequent role as the main striker while competing with Anthony Martial and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Gakpo is also capable of leading the line on his own. We won’t be completely surprised if his arrival coincides with Ronaldo’s exit. Erik ten Hag is now open to selling him.

PSV recently failed to qualify for the Champions League, and they are still holding out for £42m for Gakpo. After United’s huge outlay on Antony, PSV may stay firm on their price.
