Last season was somewhat a mixed one for the Blues as the club began the season quite well in good form, with a very strong defense that hardly could be penetrated by opposition teams.

Ngolo Kante was quite the man to beat as he felt threatening in midfield, though as some would claim not as consistent as his form in the 2020/21 season.

In his analysis of Chelsea, Guardiola studied that the only way to beat them was to Make Chelsea run, that way the spaces open and chances will be created.

The Manchester City boss who was heard speaking in the official documentary series, explained this to his .ers as they mapped out ways to stop the Blues and Ngolo Kante ahead of their fixture.

Ngolo Kante’s form in the 2020/21 season was quite the world beater as the Frenchmen terrorized teams particularly Real Madrid in back to back games and Manchester City in the final to help Chelsea become Champions of Europe.

“We’ll win in Anfield because we want this [the ball]. We go to Stamford Bridge because we want this, Kante will run behind this.” Guardiola said.

“11v11 they are so good. You know they are good. And this is the challenge, prove yourselves against them. You are good, they will run a lot, a lot when you have that [the ball].”

Pep Guardiola’s tactics proved to work to perfection, as the future Champions dominated the Blues at Stamford Bridge, in the season’s first encounter between the sides.

Even a new-look formation from Tuchel did nothing to unsettle Guardiola’s men, who dominated possession despite the midfield three Chelsea operated.

Like Guardiola said, it was all to make Chelsea run and run they did.
