After his assumption of office, Ayu knew that there are high expectations from party leaders, party members and other Nigerians regarding his plans for the PDP. As someone who came prepared, Ayu made a key vow to return PDP to winning ways. According to a report by Daily Trust, Ayu reduced his vow to concrete terms by assuring that he would help PDP to win 25 States and the majority of seats in the two Chambers of the National Assembly.

Winning one state is a big deal not to talk of winning many states. Currently, PDP controls 13 states. In that case, it means that Ayu will have to lead the party to win 12 more states to bring the number to 25. That will be hard to achieve but it is not impossible. The litmus test for Ayu as the new leader of the PDP are Ekiti and Osun State elections which he also vowed that PDP would win. Coincidentally, the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, controls the two states and their governorship elections will hold next year being 2022. If Ayu leads PDP to take over the two states from APC, then more people may see reasons to believe that he could lead his party to win more states in the 2023 general elections.

Also, it is not easy to defeat a ruling party in the two Chambers of the National Assembly. It took other parties years before the newly formed APC defeated PDP to achieve that feat in 2015. Instead of losing grip on the two Chambers of the National Assembly, APC even gained a better majority in 2019 general elections to show that it means business.

Well, it may be hard but it is not impossible for PDP to bounce back. How can Ayu make that happen? What are his strategies that he can use to lead PDP to defeat APC to win majority seats in the Houses of Reps and Senate come 2023? Only Ayu will tell. Time ticks faster with 2023 drawing closer, how realistic is this vow Ayu made given the challenges he would need to overcome?
