1. No midfielder coming in. Thiago is injured (again), Naby Keita can never remain fit and the rest of the midfield are either past their prime or very young. Still, the club is reportedly not going to sign a new midfielder this summer and that could prove very costly.

2. Van Dijk, Fabinho and Trent’s form. The three usually reliable players have been off their game since the end of last season.

Van Dijk has been at fault in all three of our games so far, Trent was horrible in the last match and seems to have regressed defensively, Fabinho was even dropped against United, not being his best version since his return from injury last campaign. When the pillars of the team are weak, the team’s form is bound to suffer.

3. Jota being severely missed. He’s not the best in terms of build-up but Diogo Jota provides goals when Liverpool need it. We still don’t know when he will be back and the attack is clearly suffering with Firmino as the No.9.

4. Man City have become better. They dominated their first two matches and came back from two goals down to draw their third.

After signing Haaland, Man City look stronger than ever and aside from the fullback position, they have no obvious weaknesses in the squad. The same cannot be said of Liverpool, who don’t look like challenging for the title this season.
