Manchester United considered a move for the Villarreal winger last summer before opting to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund for £73million.
The Red Devils are still fond admirers of the Dutch winger who has a €45million release clause which can be activated this summer.
The former Bournemouth winger, 25, has been linked with a return to the Premier League following a stunning campaign at Villarreal.
Danjuma enjoyed an incredible debut season in Spain, netting 16 goals and four assists as his side reached the semi-finals of the Champions League.
The Dutch international scored in victories over Juventus and Bayern Munich on their journey to the last four of the competition and impressed United first-hand with a sensational solo performance at Old Trafford last September.
Sadio Mane is set to leave Liverpool this summer for German club Bayern Munich and Jurgen Klopp has identified Danjuma as the perfect replacement.
Speaking to Dutch broadcaster Ziggo Sport, he said: “I was informed that Liverpool were following me closely.
“I have never had contacts with clubs or anything like that during the season – I always know about the situation after the season. I will never lie and I think it’s a bad quality if you are not ambitious.
“If a club came along that offered me a higher platform to play on sport-wise, I would always have to consider it.”
