The Reds have reportedly entered the hunt to recruit Matheus Nunes, a midfielder for Sporting Lisbon, this summer, according to journalist Rudy Galetti.

With Jude Bellingham frequently mentioned as a potential transfer to Anfield, the Merseyside club has long been said to be interested in strengthening their midfield.

While it has been reported that Jurgen Klopp will wait till next summer to make a move for the Borussia Dortmund starlet, their desire for a new midfielder may have tempted them to bring in a cheaper alternative a year early.

Nunes has been primed for a move to the Premier League this summer after previously impressing Pep Guardiola in Sporting Lisbon’s Champions League clash with Man City last season.

Chelsea are set to make a bumper offer for Sporting’s Matheus Nunes

Although it is doubtful that the Premier League winners would pursue Nunes, Liverpool may still have to contend with Chelsea for his services.

According to Foot Mercato, Sporting increased their asking price for the midfielder to £52 million as a result of the tremendous desire for the Portugal international.

Nunez cost a bundle, but Nunes’ price tag could deter Liverpool from making a bid.

However, if they were to pursue a trade, Nunez and Luis Diaz’s arrival may give them the upper hand.
