Chelsea didn’t start the game well as they looked shaky defensively. Chalobah struggled in the opening minutes to keep up with the pace of Diaz down the right flank.

However, Chelsea improved their performance before the half-hour mark as they managed to contain Liverpool’s front trio.

Chelsea nearly grabbed the lead in the opening minutes of the second half but Alonso’s effort hit the crossbar.

Jota and Diaz also looked threatening at the other end of the pitch as both players hit the crossbar.

Both teams forced the game into extra-time after failing to break their respective defences.

Chelsea had a clear advantage over Liverpool in the final 30 minutes. Klopp replaced Van Dijk before the start of extra-time in what was a strange decision by Jurgen Klopp.

However, it remains unclear why Tuchel failed to bring in Timo Werner in a game of such intensity. The German attacker isn’t the most productive player but he surely knows how to stretch the legs of the opposition.

Timo Werner would have given Chelsea a different attacking shape in the final minutes of extra-time.
