The day of your predicted period is determined by the length of your usual menstrual cycle and the start date of your previous period. The menstrual cycle is the span of time between the first day of your period and the first day of your next period. The average cycle lasts 28 days and has a pattern similar to this.

Day 1: The tissue lining your uterus (womb) degrades and exits your body via the vaginal canal. This is your period, which most women have for 4 to 8 days.

Day 8: The uterine lining begins to regenerate in preparation for the fertilized egg to be nourished. Every month, your body prepares for a possible pregnancy by doing this.

Day 14: The process of ovulation occurs when an egg is released from your ovary. If you have intercourse on the day you ovulate or within three days before, you’re more likely to get pregnant. While a man’s sperm can stay inside you for 3 to 5 days, your egg can only stay alive for one day if it is not fertilized by sperm.

Days 15 – 24: The egg is transported to the uterus via a fallopian tube. The fertilized egg will connect to the lining of your uterus if the egg combines with a sperm. This is when the pregnancy begins, and it’s called implantation.

Day 24: The egg begins to break apart if it hasn’t been linked with a sperm. Your hormone levels diminish, indicating that your uterus will not be required to maintain a pregnancy this month.

Every month, some women’s menstrual cycles are the same. These ladies can anticipate when their menstruation will begin with a high level of accuracy. Others have a monthly menstrual cycle that varies somewhat. As long as your cycle occurs every 24 to 38 days, it is still considered regular.

Late Period signs and pregnancy symptoms

Many women who menstruate on a regular basis will notice the signs of a late period. You’ll know it’s late if you weren’t expecting your period to start and it doesn’t. Periods don’t always happen on the same schedule, and it’s quite natural for them to do so.

A late or skipped period can occur for a variety of reasons, not just pregnancy. Many women experience: tiredness, breast changes, spotting, headaches, missed period and nausea during the first 8 weeks of pregnancy.

If you’re not sure whether your missed period means you’re pregnant, a pregnancy test might help you figure it out.
