Edna Awuor Otieno, 22, the woman who claimed to have had a child with the late marathoner Kelvin Kiptum, has disclosed the plans they had before his unexpected death.
Awuor described Kiptum as a kind-hearted and humble man, unaffected by his global recognition following his record-breaking marathon in Chicago in 2023.
Awuor revealed that Kiptum had generously provided her with KSh 40,000 for her upkeep in 2021.
Moreover, whenever Kiptum returned from international marathons, he would bring her gifts, including chocolates and Nike-branded clothing.
Awuor proudly displayed the shoes the acclaimed athlete had purchased for her.
Sharing insights into their relationship, Awuor mentioned that Kiptum’s considerate nature extended to training.
Heeding advice from a friend they used to train with, Kiptum decided to train Awuor himself. However, on her first attempt, Awuor found the training overwhelming and decided to step back.
Despite this, she spoke fondly of the athlete’s enduring kindness and the memorable moments they shared.
When asked about the plans they had together, Awuor clarified that there were no wedding plans in the works, as their relationship was still in its early stages and primarily rooted in friendship.
Awuor explained that she entered into the affair with full awareness of Kiptum’s marital status.
She was drawn to his humility and other desirable qualities; she felt compelled to be a part of their connection, ultimately feeling she had little choice in the matter.
However, Kiptum had vowed to take her back to school after their child came of age.
Awuor also mentioned that the marathoner’s absence created a void in her heart and in their child’s life due to the memories they had together.
