Remarkably, the political dispute between the former Governor of Kano State, Engineer Rabiu Musa Kwanwaso, and the incumbent Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Wasiri Tambuwal was birthed by the battle between the two political leaders to grab the position of the Vice Chairman (North West) of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Interestingly, there are about 17 zonal positions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the North West geopolitical zone, likewise others, and the position of zonal vice chairman has been, unanimously, zoned to Kano State as well other positions were unequivocally shared among the seven states that make up the geopolitical zone.
However, according to a report that was published by Daily Trust, former governor of Kano State, Engineer Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso,alleged that the incumbent Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Wasiri Tambuwal, is hobnobbing with a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Aminu Wali, to interfere in the affairs of the party in Kano State. This led into serious political clash, leading to an indefinite postponement of the North West Zonal Congress of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party that was being conducted at the Kaduna Trade Fair Complex on April 10.
Since the aborted April 10 Zonal Congress of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in North West geopolitical zone, Governor Aminu Wasiri Tambuwal of Sokoto State and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has been in the news for their political rift which may definitely hinder the chances of the opposition party to perform, excellently, well in the 2023 general elections.
Like him or hate him, Engineer Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is a very strong politician whose presence in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) could not be unconnected to the good performance that the party had in the last Governorship election in Kano State.
Besides, if the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) could not resolve the crisis that is rocking the North West geopolitical zone of the party, and if proper care is not taken, the party may split along Ambassador Aminu Wali and Engineer Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso camps in Kano State.
No doubt, if this should happen, it may definitely frustrate the chances of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party PDP to pose threat at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State and, possibly, in the North West geopolitical zone.
Consequently, this may affect the overall performance of the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party PDP, in 2023.
