The Ikeja Overpass Bridge is the fourth that the Lagos state government has opened in the last two months.
AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, governor of Kwara state and chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, joined Sanwo-Olu in announcing the project on Tuesday, December 19.
The Ikeja Overhead Bridge is one of five overpass bridges given to the Lagos state government for building on the Red Line line, which would share tracks with the Nigeria Railway Corporation.
According to Governor Sanwo-Olu, the T-shaped bridge with a length of 620 meters will greatly reduce traffic congestion on the Obafemi Awolowo Way, the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, and the Old Lagos-Abeokuta Motorway.
Sanwo-Olu stated in his speech that the flyover bridge will help transform the state and save time on the road, among other things.
He reaffirmed his commitment to collaborating with private initiatives to give Lagosians with a safe, seamless, and secure transportation system.
Sanwo-Olu urged commuters and motorists to oppose converting the bridge into a bus stop.
In his remarks, Governor AbdulRasak praised the efforts of the Lagos State administration, stressing that the road project is aimed at national development.
In his remarks, Transportation Commissioner Oluwaseun Osiyemi urged commuters and motorists to follow traffic laws and regulations.
