Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has backed Chelsea’s decision to pursue a deal for Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Aubameyang scored 13 goals in 24 appearances for Barca after joining the La Liga giants from Arsenal in January – and he is seemingly the man that Thomas Tuchel wants to solve his striker issues at the club

Aubameyang is travelling to London this afternoon in order to complete his medical and put pen to paper on his new contract with Chelsea – which will be worth close to the £300,000-a-week mark

Barring any late hiccups, the Gabon striker will become Chelsea’s seventh signing of the summer following Wesley Fofana, Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Carney Chukwuemeka, Marc Cucurella and Cesare Casadei.

And after hearing the news that Chelsea are all about to sign the Gabon star – Hasselbaink has opened up and had his say about the imminent arrival to Stamford Bridge

What did he actually say?

Asked about Chelsea’s deadline-day swoop for Aubameyang, former Blues striker Hasselbaink told Sky Sports: ‘He’s someone who will bring goals and we know he can handle the pressure.

‘He’s played for big clubs: Arsenal, Barcelona, Dortmund. Chelsea need a number nine, an out and out number nine, and that is what he is.

‘I think if you can sign him for the next couple of years, it’s a great signing. A great signing.’

If Aubameyang can find the form which he showcased at Barcelona – he will be a very good signing

Chelsea fans will just be hoping that they are not signing the player that was so poor at Arsenal last season – who got paid mega money and did not perform to any top-level standard
