United supporters are longing for a conclusion to takeover negotiations, with leading candidates Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim also keen to learn whether they will acquire the club.

However, after weeks of silence, an agreement now appears to be imminent – with the news coming from an unusual source.

Cardiff chairman told BBC Sport: “Manchester United are going to announce their sale at £7.2bn-7.3bn, which is roughly 10 times their revenue.” Such a lucrative takeover will have a major impact on United and what they are capable of in the coming transfer windows, with new-found funds able to free them of some of the Financial Fair Play shackles.

A deal is unlikely to impact the transfer business that the Red Devils can conduct this summer, but Erik ten Hag could have his eye on four significant signings over the next two transfer windows instead.

Striker

Rasmus Hojlund was signed this summer from Atalanta to be the long-term No 9 for United, but an alternative option in the final third will need to be pursued at some stage.

Currently, Ten Hag will need to play wingers as makeshift strikers if the Denmark international sustains an injury, which is far from sustainable. Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani are among the stars to have been linked previously, and other targets are likely to emerge.

Winger

If Jadon Sancho fails to find his form this season, it may be time for the higher powers at Old Trafford – whoever that may be at that point – to consider cutting their losses on the winger.

The ex-Borussia Dortmund star won’t be short of offers if that is the case, regardless. However, he will need replacing and United may attempt to learn from their mistakes by forking out a significant fee for a versatile, Premier League-proven winger.

Midfielder

United are currently looking at a replacement for Fred, who has now joined Fenerbahce in deal worth £13million. Fiorentina star Sofyan Amrabat has been identified as a replacement, but a younger, world-class acquisition may be in the pipeline further down the line.

Chelsea and Arsenal have already acquired their long-term No 6s in Moises Caicedo and Declan Rice, and United must follow suit and splash the cash on a star in that department within the next 12 months.

Centre-back

With Raphael Varane not getting any younger, United are already looking at young defenders that can replace him in the long term. Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo is among the stars that have already been identified as targets in that department, and the Red Devils will have no issues in matching his valuation in January – approximately £35m – if their transfer budget is bolstered….READFULL
