Teenage pimples can also accompany us into adulthood due to a number of factors. In addition to a genetic predisposition or skin type, an incorrect diet can also contribute to blemishes. What foods make acne worse?
Why does acne appear?...CONTINUE READING THE FULL ARTICLE>>>

A diet that is too high in fat and flour can aggravate acne symptoms. Excessive production of sebum (the natural oil that protects and moisturises the skin) together with dead skin cells can cause clogged pores, leading to the appearance of pimples.

In addition to diet, other factors that trigger acne are:

Hormonal changes.

Medicines.

Some cosmetics.

Stress.

Foods that make acne worse

Not everyone knows that some foods have the “ability” to aggravate acne. Therefore, if this is your problem, we advise you to try and eliminate them or reduce your consumption as much as possible.

1. Chocolate

Chocolate is one of the foods that worsen acne.

Really bad news. It’s true that chocolate offers a number of benefits, especially when we’re feeling down, but sometimes it’s also a culprit in the appearance of pimples. If you just can’t ‘give up’, we advise you to choose pure chocolate.

The problem with milk chocolate is the fat content. If, on the other hand, you want something less sweet to nibble on, try calming your hunger with a handful of nuts such as almonds.

2. White bread

White bread is an enemy of our health and skin. The refined flour from which it is made turns into sugar during digestion.

3. Spicy foods

While they are considered good for burning fat because they raise body temperature, spicy foods are one of the foods that make acne and breakouts worse.

An occasional Mexican or Indian dish isn’t a bad thing, but don’t overdo it with condiments or spicy foods if you’ve declared war on pimples.

4. Dairy products

Cheese or milk, in particular, are two foods you should not consume if you are prone to acne.

Dairy products take time to digest and often cause inflammation. One of the symptoms of lactose intolerance or difficulty digesting lactose is the feeling of “heaviness” after consuming a latte or pizza with mozzarella.

Try skimmed or lactose-free versions and assess the changes in your skin.

5. Other foods that make acne worse: Citrus fruit

For some people, eating oranges, tangerines or lemons worsens skin conditions and increases sebum production.

Although they are beneficial for the body and the immune system, you should avoid them for a while.

6. Alcoholic drinks

Alcohol is not a good ally for skin health. Drinking alcoholic beverages can lead to inflammation, clogged pores, pimples and premature ageing.

This is because alcohol is digested as sugar and breaks down glucose levels.

7. Peanut butter

Although dried fruit in general is not bad for your health, in the case of peanut butter the problem lies in the preparation.

It contains a lot of sugar and milk and is therefore not good for the skin if we suffer from acne.

Although it is very nutritious, it contains too much fat and should therefore be avoided.

8. Fried foods

It’s easy to understand the relationship between french fries and acne. When we consume fried foods, the fat levels in our body increase and with them the production of sebum.

Hot fries are especially to be avoided, as the high temperatures promote oiliness.

9. Pizza

We’ve talked about this before, but it deserves a special section. Pizza is great (no one can deny this) but it contains several ingredients that are harmful to the health of the skin.

For a start, the flour used to make the dough. Tomato sauce (fried) and the cheese that covers it are also “bad” for acne.

However much you love this food, you should limit yourself to once a week at the most.

Habits that make acne worse

In addition to food, there are some habits that promote the appearance of acne or hinder treatment. Sometimes we adopt them thinking that they are helpful, but instead of helping, they make the situation worse.
Washing the face too much

If sebum is the problem, why not wash it off with plenty of soap and water? Well, because when the skin “realises” it doesn’t have enough fat, it forms more!

It is also bad to rub the skin with the intention of removing pimples every time we wash our face. Rubbing causes more dryness and inflammation, which makes the situation worse.
Oily cosmetics

If there are creams, sunscreens, foundations and make-up for every skin type, it is not by chance. Cosmetics that say ‘for oily skin’ do not contain much oil (unlike those for dry skin).

Also, you should start using products with the indication “non-comedogenic” (which means that they do not clog pores).
Squeezing pimples

We know it’s a temptation that’s hard to resist. However, squeezing pimples leaves marks on the skin that in many cases do not disappear overnight.

In addition, if your fingers or nails are dirty, you can cause an infection.

Try and eliminate foods that make acne worse from your diet.

Despite extensive research into the relationship between acne and certain foods, studies are not yet conclusive. Keep in mind that every body is different, so it’s important to see for yourself which foods can cause acne.
