NULGE President Ambali Olatunji made this statement on Wednesday in Abuja during a press conference to conclude the organization’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.

Mr Olatunji stated that the NEC-in-Session decided that the union ought to contact President Bola Tinubu in order to persuade the Nigerian Navy to cease demolishing certain refinery sites located in the Niger Delta area.

“Instead of destroying those refining sites, they should be licensed properly and mandated to pay taxes.

“This will create job opportunities and be sources of revenue earnings,” he said.

Additionally, Mr Olatunji urged the federal government to think about granting licenses to additional modular refineries that are capable of refining crude oil.

“If the multinationals are leaving the country, we should encourage individuals that are willing and capable to do it in Nigeria,” he said.

“If we can work on those areas, coupled with minimum wage, the effects of fuel subsidy removal will go down.”

The President of NULGE further stated that the NEC-in-Session acknowledged the difficulties caused by the elimination of fuel subsidies.

Thus, he urged the President to lessen the impact by setting up Compress Natural Gas, or CNG, centers around the nation.

Mr Olatunji urged the President and the Tripartite Committee on Minimum pay to establish a minimum pay that is reasonable for workers.
