Erik ten Hag has entrusted Casemiro with a crucial role in the heart of his team, leaving Guardiola in no doubt about the player’s abilities.
“While I don’t personally know him, I had information about him during his time at Madrid, regarding his professionalism and the quality he possesses,” Guardiola told reporters on Friday.
“I was convinced that he didn’t come here just for a leisurely experience or the twilight years of his career. Winning four or five Champions League titles with Real Madrid signifies that he is a special player. Otherwise, it would be impossible to remain there for such a long time.”
Guardiola also commended Ten Hag, highlighting the challenges of adapting to English football as a manager. He acknowledged the United manager’s ability to improve the team consistently, especially considering the difficulties faced in the first season.
“I assess a manager based on their progress, observing the improvements from the time they arrived until now,” Guardiola explained. “To witness a team becoming better and better is no easy feat, particularly in the inaugural season. A truly exceptional manager embodies our profession both on and off the pitch.”
While Guardiola clarified that they are not in regular contact and their interaction was limited to a brief experience at Bayern Munich, he firmly believes that United has a remarkable manager who can lead the club for many years to come.
