The Gunners are currently top of the table with 34 points, two more than City who are the reigning champions.
Guardiola believed Mikel Arteta’s side have “the work ethic, the talent, the support.”
“For sure they are contenders (for the title) compared to previous seasons.
They are not the only ones who last season were not a contender to win the Premier League that this season will be,” Guardiola told a press conference on Friday.
He, however, warned that City “want to be there as close as possible to them, the season is so long, many things will happen, many tough games.”
City host Brentford in their last league fixture before the World Cup, while Arsenal travel to Wolves.
