Simpson had started his transition seven years earlier with testosterone therapy and breast augmentation surgery, but had not undergone gender reassignment surgery. The medical community had assured him that pregnancy was impossible.
However, in February 2018, Simpson and his fiancé, Stephen Gaeth, were astounded to discover they were expecting a baby.
Despite initial reservations and a storm of public criticism, the couple decided to proceed with the pregnancy. Simpson had to suspend his testosterone treatments, a move he feared could trigger physical and psychological changes.
During the pregnancy, Simpson faced harsh criticism and was often referred to as “it”, adding to his emotional burden. Despite these challenges, the couple focused on preparing for their baby. In September 2018, Simpson underwent an emergency C-section, welcoming their son, Rowan Fox.
In the aftermath, Simpson resumed his testosterone therapy and adjusted to fatherhood. He describes the experience as incredibly difficult but worthwhile, adding that he cherishes every moment with Rowan.
