1. Smoking and regular intake of alcohol.

Excessive smoking and high intake of alcohol can be dangerous to your health especially as you age. Too much smoking and drinking increases your risk of developing several medical conditions and also cause premature ageing. Smoking cigarettes can affect some vital organs in your body such as the heart, liver, kidney and even the brain.

2. Not seeing a doctor regularly.

3. Holding a grudge.

As you age, you should probably learn the habit of forgiving others who offend you. Holding grudges and inbuilt anger can be detrimental to your health. Your levels of stress hormones goes up when you hold grudges, with negative effects on your heart, metabolism, and immune system.

4. Lack of quality sleep.

Lack of quality sleep, especially if you are over 40 has a lot of negative effects on your mental and physical health. Studies by experts in the field of health and fitness have shown that not getting enough sleep can increase your risk of heart disease, stress, depression, inflammation and others.

5. Lack of exercise or physical activity.

The importance of exercise to ageing people cannot be ignored. Try to engage in exercising activities every single day to stay fit. Lack of exercise increases your risk of developing various life threatening medical conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, hypertension and cancer.

6. Poor diet.

The food you eat can either improve your health or shorten your lifespan. Not eating enough fruits, vegetables and other fiber rich foods is very bad, as well as consuming too much junks, sugary and fast food. Once you clock the age of 40, always watch your diet as if your life depends on it.

7. Excessive exposure to TV and phone screen.

Research have shown that the light from these screen reduces the brain’s natural production of melatonin, making it more difficult to sleep and relax. If you are the type that spends so much time watching television or operating a cell phone, try as much as possible to reduce that lifestyle habit now that you are over 40.
