The England international has been one of the Blues’ most consistent performers, and the club’s hierarchy is willing to reward him.

He still has three years left on his £58,000-per-week contract, but the board believes he is deserving of a raise this summer.

James has been a key player for the Blues since breaking through under manager Frank Lampard three years ago.

He has made the right wing-back position his own under manager Thomas Tuchel, and he has been excellent this season.

In the Premier League, he had five goals and nine assists. Only Mason Mount performed better for the Blues.

Mount, like James, has had a similar career trajectory. Chelsea is also planning to offer him a new long-term contract.

Mount is currently paid £75,000 per week and is said to be looking for a weekly salary of around £160,000 to extend his stay.
