Breaking reports have it that Chelsea are set to beat Real Madrid to the signature of talented American goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina. The 18-year old shotstopper from Illinois plays for the Chicago Fire in the Major League Soccer, and is one of the most the highly rated youngsters in the game.

Chelsea aren’t the only ones interested in Slonina, as the Blues are looking to beat competition from Real Madrid for his signature. But it seems he is likely to end up at Stamford Bridge, Fabrizio Romano reports that Chelsea are close to agreeing a deal for Slonina which would cost them around €10million.

Chelsea were reportedly close to agreeing a deal for Slonina earlier in the year, but contract talks were affected by the sanctions that were imposed on the club. He may well be a replacement for Kepa, who may be set to depart the club this summer, and he would also likely be the long term replacement for Edouard Mendy.
